Born on September 23, 1961, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Carel was raised within the vibrant art community of Petion-Ville. It was here that his passion for painting was kindled, setting him on a path to becoming one of Haiti’s most talented and revered artists.

In his formative years, Carel’s artistic influences were deeply rooted in both international and local art. As a young child, he found inspiration in the works of renowned artists such as Paul Cezanne and Vincent Van Gogh. Additionally, he drew inspiration from the local artistic talent surrounding him, including Jean Claude Legagneur, Francoise Jean, Lesly Exume, and the late Carlo Dayan. These interactions with established artists not only provided mentorship but also helped shape his artistic identity.

To further his artistic skills, Carel pursued a classical education at the College Roger Anglade in Haiti. Seeking to expand his horizons, he later ventured to Miami, where he enrolled at the Lindsey Hopkins Technical College. Immersed in an environment rich in artistic possibilities, Carel honed his craft and developed a distinct style that would come to define his work.
